First impressions matter and a thoughtfully designed entry sign can leave a lasting mark on the identity of a place. More than just a welcome, entry signage has the power to enhance the sense of community, promote positive values, boost brand awareness and attract visitors to the town or region. It sets the tone for the experience ahead, offering a sense of pride and belonging while creating memorable moments that endure for years to come.

Great design starts with strong concepts

At Armsign, an entry sign project begins with concept development by our team of interpretive designers. This multi-stage process consolidates ideas and themes established in start-up meetings and client briefings, transforming them into a range of considered, eye-catching and innovative design options.

The value of the concept development process for entry signs cannot be overstated. Aside from the actual designs, the process provides an opportunity for community and stakeholder input and often it reveals perspectives, themes and values yet to be identified or considered.

Through the process we guide you with our expertise - as we know that getting the design right is critical to ensure your entry signs stand the test of time, in design, materials and community values.

Refining the chosen design

Once a concept for your entry sign has been selected, we work closely with you to refine the chosen design, incorporating colours, fonts, graphics and other identified themes to ensure the design captures the spirit of your community and creates a worthy welcome to both locals and tourists alike.

We provide a range of colour options, font selections and graphic elements while advising on materials, construction method and illumination.

Designing for longevity

Throughout the design process, one of the key considerations is the materials used in your entry sign. With a wide range of options on offer, we advise can ensure that your entry signs are designed using materials that enhance the visual appeal, are easy to maintain and that sit harmoniously within the surrounding environment.

Materials we use time and time again include:

Weathering steel or 'Corten' - Ideal for it's timeless appeal and low maintenance.

Anodised aluminium - lightweight, durable and resistant to corrosion.

Mild steel - where aluminium is not suitable, we use steel, painted with 2pac polyurethane finish in a colour of your choosing. Find out about our paint colours.

Natural stone - a great base material for just about any design.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Sculpting the Flinders Ranges skyline

Tucked away in South Australia, about four and a half hours north of Adelaide, Hawker is a small town with a big role as the gateway to the iconic Flinders Ranges. It proudly welcomes visitors with a striking town entry sign that reflects the spirit of its dynamic landscape and vibrant community.

The design features bold, angular structures shaped to mirror the surrounding ranges, decorated with patterns by local Adnyamathanha and Luritja artist, Juanella McKenzie. Subtle colour highlights capture the shifting light of the ranges, while stainless steel-faced letters boldly announce Hawker’s name.
