Nestled in the heart of the Northern Rivers, this iconic trail is more than just a scenic route, it’s a celebration of the community, culture and character that makes Nimbin an instantly recognisable destination. The trail connects key precincts and spaces in and around the town of Nimbin while showcasing local artworks, sculptures, plantings as it winds its way through green spaces.

Years in the making

After many years of planning, design and consultation, the Nimbin Rainbow Walk was officially launched in March 2025, to an overwhelmingly positive reception from community and public figures. Armsign were thrilled to contribute to this milestone project, working closely with designer Ross Wallace and the Lismore City Council in delivering this unique project.

Connecting spaces

This scenic pathway weaves through lush green spaces and vibrant community hubs, connecting recreation spaces including the playground, skatepark and swimming pool with the Town and Aquarius Park. Along the way, there is plenty of colour on display, with murals, sculptures, local artworks and interpretive signage that celebrate the people, stories and values of this unique village.

Informative & accessible

One of the greatest features of the trail is its generously wide pathways, making it accessible to everyone. It is designed to accommodate people of all ages and abilities throughout most of the track, including the artworks and sculptures pieces. Wayfinding signage guides the visitor along the meandering path that connects the various precincts and features along the trail.

Every sign tells a story

It's only fitting that such a vibrant trail features colourful signage - and there's plenty on display with a mixture of interpretive storyboards and wayfinding signs. The colourful designs weave together indigenous artwork and language with a history of Nimbin's alternative culture, community and identity. Eye-catching and informative, the signs feature all spectrums of the rainbow with plenty of visual references to the original Aquarius festival of 1973. The distinct interpretive signage ties in perfectly with the artworks and sculptures on display, which together with the lush green backdrop, provides an immersive, outdoor experience.

Another local project

Continuing on from a long working relationship with Lismore City Council, Armsign were engaged to manufacture and install all of the signage for the Nimbin Rainbow Walk. The large interpretive structures feature our signature Polycure print panels on custom built aluminium frames, while the wayfinding signs are mounted on recycled timber posts, in keeping with the aesthetic of the project. It marks another local project for Armsign in the Lismore City Council area alongside Nesbitt Park Mountain Bike tracks, Heritage Park, Interactive Phone Booths among others.
