The beachside town of Byron Bay is a hot spot for whale watching and a playground for dolphin pods.

The trail tells the story of the migration of the humpback whale in an interesting and fun way, appealing to all age groups. There are hidden icons for kids to find along the way, linking back to support marketing we designed, found at the tourist information centre.

QR codes provide links to environmental groups and relevant stakeholders.

Concept Development

We presented a large range of interpretive concepts for Byron Shire Council to promote and engage visitors with their Whale and Dolphin trail.

In conjunction with local National Parks and whale groups Armsign researched and wrote the content for this project with a broad target audience of all ages.

We developed a colourful, interpretive walking trail that takes visitors along the foreshore beginning with the iconic whale made from recycled timber and steel.

The use of QR Codes enabled us to extend and enhance the visitor's experience by linking them to additional resources and groups, introducing a digital dimension to this project.

Made from a eclectic combination of Coreten, routed timber, painted steel, and polycure these signs were manufactured in-house by our talented production team.

This variety of interpretive and wayfinding signs were installed over one day by our dedicated install team.
